DAT Finance Davis Accounting & Tax ("DAT Finance," "we," "us") is a CPA firm in Sidney, Ohio, owned by Tyler Davis, CPA. This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, who sees it, and how you can ask us about it. It covers this website, dat-finance.com, and the services we provide to clients.
The short version: we collect what we need to answer your questions and do the work you hire us for. We do not sell personal information. We do not use it for anything unrelated to serving you.
What we collect through this website
If you fill out the discovery call form on our Contact page, we receive the details you type in: your name, company, role, email address, phone number, the service area you are interested in, and any extra context you add. If you email or call us, we receive what you send or say.
Our website is hosted by a third-party provider, and like most sites it may record basic technical information when you visit, such as your browser type, device type, pages viewed and approximate location. We use this only to keep the site working and to understand which pages are useful.
What we collect from clients
When you hire us, we collect the information needed to do the work. Depending on the service, that can include business and personal contact details, tax identification numbers, financial statements, bank and payroll records, invoices, prior tax returns, and other financial documents you give us.
If you authorize it, we also connect to your accounting software, for example QuickBooks Online, through the software provider's official connection. Through that connection we read the data you have given us permission to see, such as your chart of accounts, transactions, customers, vendors, and reports. We use it to prepare your books, reports, forecasts and tax work. We access it only for your company, only for the services you hired us to perform, and only for as long as you keep the connection in place. You can disconnect it at any time from inside your accounting software, and you can tell us to stop.
How we use information
We use information to respond to your inquiries, to provide and bill for our services, to prepare tax returns and financial reports, to meet our legal and professional obligations as a CPA firm, and to keep our records in order. We do not use client financial data for marketing, and we do not use it to serve anyone other than the client it belongs to.
Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent personal information.
We share information only when it is needed to do the work or when the law requires it. That includes:
- Service providers that help us run the firm, such as accounting, tax preparation, document storage, email and website hosting providers. They may handle information only to provide their service to us.
- Government agencies, when we file returns or reports on your behalf, with your authorization.
- Other professionals you ask us to work with, such as your attorney or banker, when you tell us to.
- Courts, regulators or other parties when a law, subpoena or professional rule requires it.
As a CPA firm we are bound by professional confidentiality rules. We do not disclose confidential client information without your consent, except where the rules or the law permit or require it.
How we protect information
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including access limits, account sign-ins protected by additional verification where the provider offers it, and storage with reputable providers. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot promise that information will never be accessed without permission. If we learn of a breach that affects your information, we will tell you as the law requires.
How long we keep it
We keep client records for as long as we need them to serve you and to meet tax, legal and professional record retention requirements. When records are no longer needed, we dispose of them securely. Website inquiries from people who never become clients are kept only as long as they are useful for following up.
Cookies
This website may use basic cookies or similar technology that are needed for the site to work or to measure visits. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking them may affect how parts of the site work.
Your choices
You can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Some records we must keep by law or professional rule, and we will tell you if that applies. You can also ask us to stop contacting you. To make a request, email or call us using the details below. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under your state's privacy law, and we will honor requests as that law requires.
Children
Our services are for businesses and adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
